🤔 WHAT IS LÄPPIE?
Doesn't toilet paper decompose anyway?
Technically yes, but even plastic eventually decomposes in nature. The question is how long this takes and what residues it leaves behind.
It takes up to 2 years for cellulose to completely decompose in nature. For that long, the unsightly white "blossoms" remain on the ground.
The countless toilet paper blossoms in Europe annoyed us so much that we decided to raise awareness about it with Läppie.
What exactly is a "Läppie Pee Cloth"?
A pee cloth is a reusable cloth that replaces toilet paper when urinating outdoors. You dab yourself with it after a quick pee, fold it up, and attach it to your backpack or belt while on the go. At home, it goes into the washing machine at 60°C – done. In the US outdoor community, "pee rags" have long been standard.
We now want to establish this concept in Europe too, because too much toilet paper is left in nature here as well!

Is Läppie only for women?
No! Läppie is suitable for everyone. Especially in nature, women are known to have more effort than men when peeing, so Läppie is particularly practical for women. But more and more men are also happy to use Läppie, especially on longer tours without regular showering, it can prevent body odor from developing.
How do I use Läppie?
Simply use it after urinating, like paper towels. The side with the hand strap is for your hand, the black side for wiping after urinating. After use, simply secure Läppie with the snap fasteners.
Can I pee into a Läppie like into a sponge?
No, that's not possible; it's a normal fabric, like many others, with normal absorbency. Läppie is for wiping, not for peeing into.

Is that really hygienic?
Yes. Läppie is made of antibacterial, quick-drying material, which prevents bacterial growth.
The integrated PUL membrane also reliably protects your hands from penetrating moisture during use. We have extensively tested Läppie on long outdoor tours – including the Pacific Crest Trail over 4,200 km.
The result: hygienic, reliable, and safe to use.
Why doesn't Läppie smell?
The fabric is treated with the Silvadur process - a technology approved and deemed safe in Europe - making it antibacterial and odor-neutral.
The silver ions prevent the formation of bacteria responsible for the typical urine odor.
Urine odor occurs when bacteria feast on nutrients excreted with the urine. The Silvadur process kills these bacteria, making Läppie usable for up to 7 consecutive days!
Is Läppie also usable for the big business?
Once, yes, but it doesn't reduce odor! :D All kidding aside. No, Läppie is only for a quick pee.
Won't my hands get wet when I use it?
No, because the fabric incorporates a PUL membrane that ensures moisture does not penetrate to the hand side.
🚿 CARE & CLEANING
How do I wash Läppie?
After seven days of use, you should wash Läppie at 60°C in the washing machine. Please do not use bleach or fabric softener.
How do I wash Läppie when I'm on the go?
If you're on a longer trip and don't have a washing machine handy, you can also handwash it with soap.
Caution! Please never wash Lappy or any other equipment in open waters, as microfibers and detergent residues, as well as urine residues, can detach from all plastics and get into the water.
How do I dry Läppie?
Simply air-dry. Polyester dries relatively quickly. You can attach Läppie to your gear folded or open; the important thing is that it gets enough airflow. Please note that drying may take longer in very humid regions and odor may develop more quickly.
🎒 USE ON THE GO
How do I use Läppie specifically?
- Urinate as usual.
- Dab with Läppie – the PUL membrane protects your hand.
- Fold the pee cloth (wet side inwards).
- Attach discreetly to your backpack, dog leash, belt, or saddle using the snap fastener.
- The pee cloth dries quickly by itself in the fresh air.
- Rinse briefly when convenient while out, wash in the machine at home.
Does Läppie smell the backpack for others?
No. The material is odor-neutral and dries so quickly that no unpleasant odor develops. Many of our customers report that they carry Läppie openly on their backpack – without others even noticing what it is.
Where do I tie Läppie?
You can easily attach Läppie anywhere. With the loop and snap fasteners, you can attach it to your riding or bicycle saddle, backpack, fanny pack, or chalk bag. No matter where, it doesn't smell and is always at hand when nature calls you to the bushes.
🌿 SUSTAINABILITY
Why is Läppie sustainable?
Läppie permanently replaces disposable products, which would otherwise remain in nature for years until they decompose.
It is handcrafted in Northern Germany; we do not believe in mass production from the Far East. This also enables us to have short delivery routes and no overproduction.
All these reasons led to us being awarded the KielRegion Sustainability Prize in 2024.
How much toilet paper am I really saving?
If you add up how often you pee per day and multiply that by 365 days – that quickly amounts to a lot of toilet paper.
A single Läppie can replace hundreds of rolls of toilet paper over its entire lifespan, many of which would end up in nature.
With Läppie, we want to help educate people that toilet paper does not belong in nature
What's the deal with "Leave No Trace"?
Leave No Trace is a principle widely used in the US outdoor community: Leave no trace in nature. No rubbish, no toilet paper, no interference with the ecosystem. Läppie was born precisely out of this idea. On our journey along the Pacific Crest Trail, we experienced how clean nature can be when everyone participates.
